Transcription factor

A protein that binds specific DNA sequences and influences whether nearby genes are transcribed into RNA. A transcription factor can activate or repress its targets.

Transcription is the process of copying information from DNA into RNA. Transcription factors help control that process by recognizing particular DNA sequences and interacting with the molecular machinery that reads genes.

A transcription factor can increase or decrease the activity of one gene or a group of genes. Its effect depends on the cell type, developmental stage, environmental signals, and other proteins present, so the same genome can produce different patterns of gene activity in different tissues.

Cannabis transcription factors regulate many traits and responses. MYB MYB transcription factor A member of a large family of DNA-binding regulatory proteins.
